Project Achieve General Information

What is it?

  • A WCPSS initiative implemented to provide greater support in maximizing student achievement in order to reach Goal 2008.

What does it mean?

  • We constantly seek best teaching practices.
  • We analyze student achievement data and use that data to drive our instruction.
  • We use a model of continuous improvement, constantly assessing where we are and what we need to do to improve. We use the Plan-Do-Check-Act model.
  • The school staff identifies areas of strength and weakness and sets goals for improvement. We emphasize working in teams with common grade level planning each week.
  • We have a support team of central office staff who assist us with areas we identify as needing improvement. They provide staff development and resources we request.
  • We align the curriculum, instruction, and assessments. Grades 3, 4, and 5 deliver daily focus lessons in reading and math, which are correlated to the Standard Course of Study and provide an introduction to the daily block of instruction. We assess frequently (every seven to eight days) on a small number of objectives. We then use that assessment information to provide immediate refocusing or enrichment.

How can parents help?

  • Monitor your child’s homework daily. Ask specific questions about what he/she is learning, especially in math and reading.
  • Read the Monday folder materials each week. If your child did not do well on an assessment, review it with him/her.
  • Schedule conferences with your child’s teacher. The students keep track of their assessments. Look at the assessments and your child’s progress chart and talk to the teacher about ways you can help.
  • Make sure your child comes to school on time every day, and do not check them out early unless it is an emergency.
  • The one best thing your child can do is READ, READ, READ!
