What is PBS?

Hodge Road elementary is proud to be one of fourteen schools in Wake County to be participating in the PBS program. PBS stands for Positive Behavior Support. The goal of PBS is to develop school wide expectations which will be common for all students and staff within the school. The PBS team at Hodge Road consists of a group of teachers, a specialist, the school counselor, the assistant principal and a PBS coach from Wake County. We have been working as team, along with the rest of the staff here at Hodge Road to develop school wide expectations.

What will change?

To help with the PBS team and the school identify problem areas we are currently using a new system to collect information. Teachers are now using classroom and office referrals forms to let parents know about problems that may occur with their child. This form looks very formal but it is to help the school identify where problems are happening.

What's Next?

The PBS team finalized the school wide expectations and hung posters around the school of these expectations. Students were taught what P.A.W.S stands for during PAWS weeek. Each day we focused on a different letter. Then the students rotated through stations throughout the school to learn how these expectations are applied to the cafeteria, bathroom, hallway, playground, and during arrival/dismissal from school. Each semester the PAWS expectations are reviewed. The Fifth Graders even created a Power Point Presentation that was presented school-wide to help review all of the PAWS expectations

The adjustment to PAWS is going smoothly and the students are doing a great job living up to the new expectations!! We are very proud of all of them!
